SONY DSCWhile at the Rio+20 Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Cynthia Rosenzweig and Somayya Ali convened a panel of urban climate change scholars and practitioners at the Rio+C40 Mayors Summit in Forte de Copacabana. The UCCRN panel discussed the ways cities are currently acting as “first responders” to climate change. The panel met on June 18, 2012 and discussed the results of the first Assessment Report on Climate Change and Cities (ARC3), and held a scoping session for the compilation of the Second Assessment Report on Climate Change and Cities (ARC3-2), which is currently underway. The expected outcome of the second ARC3 book is a global state-of-the-knowledge assessment of urban issues that will create a knowledge base for sustainable urban futures.
