Cities Day at COP19
UCCRN Co-Founders Cynthia Rosenzweig and Bill Solecki were in Warsaw, Poland for the 19th session of the UN Conference of the Parties (COP19) attending sessions highlighting the role of the private sector, and sessions organized by the City of Warsaw, ICLEI, and other city groups.
During a high-level segment in the second week of the conference, a Cities Day was organized to highlight the critical role of cities ask key actors and implementers in responding to climate change. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon opened the session, which featured a panel of Ministers, Mayors, and sub-national leaders. He emphasized the “shared responsibility” of the climate crisis and the need to turn crisis into opportunity, highlighting that the local level is where policies are implemented.
